Well, if you haven't figured it out by now, I have actually managed to create a blog. My summer-scorched mind is churning away..... I created an avatar too (for those of you who didn't notice). I am not sure that I am quite as slim as my avatar, but one can dream, right? I actually took the time to put my avatar on my Facebook profile. No more question mark in the picture area. My friends are going to fall out of their chairs when they see that! (Not that they will be amazed at my prowess, I am actually pretty good at this computer stuff - I just don't bother all the time. I am not at the instinctual level, like my husband, but I limp along just fine.) I had a spot of trouble with the avatar creation on Yahoo, but I just clicked along and eventually came up with something approximately in my image (see above comment re: slimness). It was kinda fun 'trying on' the various clothes and stuff. I wanted to choose some outlandish outfits, but knew that if any of my friends or family saw it they would certainly never let me hear the end of it!
Curriculum connection:
Creating a blog (providing my school district would actually let us....but that is a gripe for another day) would be good for any project in the classroom, individual or group. Now, I know this is not a new idea, but it is at my level. At least for me! It would also be a great communication device between home and school. Also probably not a particularly new idea, but hey, I am thinking with my fingertips here.
Avatars....would be fun to read the students a story and not show pictures, and then create avatars to match the characters in that story. You could do it as a group project, or individual. A great aid to visualization, and ties in with things like movies, cartoons and comic books. You could change the avatar looks based on the character, give different scenarios for that character, and have the avatar's looks change. But the change has to be within the character traits in that book.
Week two....done.

Week 1 - Things 1 & 2
I keep expecting two little red-haired problems to pop up as I do this!! I suspect that I am not alone in that image. Anyone got a net?
That is as good an image as any, I expect - the net, not the things. Undertaking this Web 2.0 project during the summer was the act of a crazed human being. I don't want to actually have to think - I just want to lay in the sun and read something that isn't educational! The organizers must have caught me in a weak moment when they put out the call for volunteers. And yet, here I am, trying to muddle through the first few things. At least I had no trouble reading the "About" section, and clicked beyond what was actually required. Learned a couple of things, too. Isn't that amazing!? (Considering the state of my summer-mind, I find it so.....)
About the 7 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learners.....I still want to know how you have 1/2 a thing. Especially when the presentation says that it is actually one of the most important things! It makes for a catchy title though; I have to admit that at least. However, I suppose if you play too much you won't actually get anything accomplished, which is a bad thing when you are trying to become or continue to be a lifelong learner.
I don't feel that I have a problem with lifelong learning. I always seem to be signing up to learn something new (I have more bits and pieces of craft-type stuff than you can shake a stick at - good for my offspring, not so good for limiting basement clutter), or take a new class to fulfill a dream. And don't get me started on the number of things I Google to figure out how to do! As a matter of fact, the biggest reason I volunteered for Web 2.0 is so that I can learn some of the things that my husband talks about - I am tired of feeling ridiculously stupid whenever he mentions this stuff! I mean let's face it, my kindergarten students don't do this, but my children will and my husband does, and I suppose I will eventually get out of the kindergarten level and have to stay at least abreast of what the students are doing.
So..... I am though the first week....hooray for me!
